Blue&Soul - TY Album Launch Review

Under a Special Kind of Spell

British hip hop is well and truly alive and this is just the beginning of an incredible adventure for both TY and the whole UK musical fraternity. I had seen TY on UK hip hop circuit on many occasions, but never seen him perform an entire live show. According to the Hip hop grapevine, I was in for a real treat and I certainly was not disappointed as the Jazz Café was treated to a spectacular display of one of Britain’s finest and most revolutionary hip hop artists.

Those fortunate enough to have been witness to the official album launch and showcase of 'Special Kind of Fool' can testify that, TY is far from simply being a rapper. In the words of the “conductor” himself, the fusion of musical influences as displayed on stage by the rules and boxes dictated by the industry “shouldn’t have worked”. But there is not a person in attendance, from the main floor to the top bar

Interview with Beatnikonline.net

Ty meet up with the guys at Beatnikonline.com to discuss album and life in Hop-Hop.

Sparsely are there artists that are as fundamental to the expression of Britishness as a strong cup of tea. The reluctant champion of UK hip hop, TY is one such artist. A musical hero who has equally given as much as he has nurtured to the brewing taste of contemporary British music. Now after four albums and nearing 10 years in service to bring what’s good, Ty still has no intentions of throwing in the towel.

If you’re oblivious to this rogue wordsmith south of the river turned international acclaimed hip hop heavyweight, a serious re-educational slap is very much over due.

Over the years timeless classics like ‘Hercules’, ‘Wait A Minute’, ‘Oh You Want More’ (the remix with Roots Manuva is a treat), or later brilliant modern wonders like ‘Closer’, ’This Here Music’, to fresh new tracks ‘Emotions’ and ‘Heart Is Breaking’ have changed a perception of what UK Hip Hop should be as well as serving a great place to start your quality control re-education...........Ty embodies the intellect, talent and ferocity of an MC always destined to become a legend. He’s brutally honest and in that incredibly funny. “Inspiration is gonna come at any time. You have to pay attention.”

Black Sheep Mag - TY Album Launch Review

Those fortunate to have been witness to the official album launch and showcase at the Jazz Café can testify that, TY is far from simply being a rapper.

In the words of the "conductor" himself, the fusion of musical influences as displayed on stage by the rules and boxes dictated by the industry "shouldn't have worked", but there is not a person in attendance from the main floor to the top bar balcony of the sold out venue that can dispute that it totally did.

Album launch reviewed in Independent Journal

Journalist Matilda Egere-Cooper reviews TY's album launch for Independent Journal

'You've got to hand it to Ty - just when UK hip-hop music looks like it's been compromised by the allure of mainstream success, the south London rapper has managed to produce a fourth album that not only maintains its integrity, but has proven to be his strongest work to date - a clear sign that you don't need to be commercial to be acclaimed.'
